One of a set of Three Marian Carols (along with The Angel Gabriel and Hail, Blessed Virgin Mary) for accomplished church or chamber choir, this tender setting of well-known words from William Ballet’s Lute Book is for unaccompanied SATB with divisi and Soprano solo.

The choir repeat throughout the words of the lullaby – ‘Lalulla, lulla, lullaby’ – while the soloist sings the narrative of the verses.

With its gentle, intensively loving character, it would suit the quieter points in a Christmastide service, or provide a reflective counterpoint in a carol concert.
